Made from the highest quality sterilised peat to exacting standards, Jiffy-7 Peat pellets are widely used in commercial horticulture across the globe.
Simply place the pellets into a saucer or propagator (hole side up - you will see what we mean when you have them in front of you), add a little tepid tap water to the bottom of the container and watch them expand over a 20 minute or so period. The pellets have a pH of 5.3 so the is no need to pH adjust the tap water, they are also fully fertilised so nutrients are also unnecessary at this stage.
If seeds are going into them make a little hole in the top of the peat about 5mm deep, drop the seed in and gently re-cover. For cuttings simply make a hole deep into the pellet with a cocktail stick or similar object, take the cutting and dip in Clonex or Azos then push the stem approx 2/3 of the way down into the pellet. When its firmly seated very gently press the peat down around the stem of the cutting to make sure no air can get in and to add support.
When roots show this 41mm size fits perfectly into either or the large hole Transplanting Cubes or they can be placed directly into a small pot or Jiffy Coir Pot with a Lightmix soil or Coco.
The composition of the Jiffy-7 pellets has been changed from a mixture of 60% peat and 40% coco to 30% peat and 70% coco. This change makes little difference in usage, except that the pellets absorb water more quickly and therefore expand faster than before.
PRO7 by Jiffy Coco Pellets
The PRO7 by Jiffy Coco Pellets has become the preferred choice for many modern professional plant propagators in greenhouses and nurseries.
Designed for use under a wide range of challenging conditions, this rooting medium offers exceptional versatility.
Each pellet is made from 100% RHP-certified coco substrate, encased in netting for convenience and ease of use.
Plants that thrive in well-aerated, fast-draining plugs benefit significantly from these Coco Pellets.
For growers looking to adopt a peat-free propagation system, the PRO7 by Jiffy Coco Pellets is an ideal solution.
Place the pellets hole side up in a saucer or propagator, add a little tepid tap water to the bottom and let them expand over about 20 minutes. For seeds, make a hole about 5mm deep, drop the seed in and gently re-cover.
Do I need to pH adjust water or add nutrients for Jiffy-7 pellets?
No. The Jiffy-7 peat pellets have a pH of 5.3 so there is no need to pH adjust tap water, and they are fully fertilised, so nutrients are unnecessary at this stage.
What is the difference between the peat and coco Jiffy pellets?
Jiffy-7 pellets are now 30% peat and 70% coco, so they absorb water and expand faster than before. The PRO7 Coco pellets are 100% RHP-certified coco in netting, a good fit for a peat-free system and plants that like well-aerated, fast-draining plugs.
Which Jiffy pellet pack sizes are available?
You can choose a bag of 50 Coco (41mm), a bag of 50 Jiffy-7 Peat (38 to 41mm), a box of 1000 Jiffy-7 Peat or a box of 1155 Coco. The bags suit home propagation, while the boxes suit larger runs.
